What you should know about anxiety disorders

Anxiety is a natural human reaction. And contrary to popular opinion, anxiety can be beneficial because it alerts poeple to potential dangers and gives off an adrenaline rush that can help them accomplish a task in record time.

But like many things, anxiety when taken into the extreme can have disastrous results. These feelings can lead to panic attacks and chronic worrying that can slowly affect the way a person deals with other people and with normal life situations.

Anxiety disorder, as psychologists would want to call this condition, can range from something as simple as feelings of uneasiness to responses as severe as feelings of terror and claustrophobia. Fortunately, among the psychological disorders, anxiety problems are one of the most common and the most treatable. Combinations of medications and behavior therapy are often given. Symptoms of anxiety problems include fast heartbeat and palpitations, chest pains and difficulty in breathing, anxious thoughts that persist even without any concrete reason, dizziness and nausea, sweating, trembling, difficulty in concentrating, fearful thoughts and feelings of disorientation and claustrophobia.

Below are the types of anxiety disorders as mentioned in the DSM-IV.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder is characterized by excessive but unwarranted worries that a person cannot stop having. Although most people will experience these kinds of feelings every once in a while, a disorder is only diagnosed if the feelings persist for six months and start to affect work and the person’s relationships with other people. Some of the common symptoms that people should watch out for are physiological reactions such as headaches, trembling, muscle tension, sweating, and trouble staying or falling asleep. There are also bouts of restlessness and sweating.

Panic disorder is another type of anxiety disorder characterized by feelings of terror that strikes so suddenly without immediate cause. Often, people who are having panic attacks feel pains in their chest with their heartbeats going fast. Some will also feel lightheadedness and even nausea. They will find it hard to breathe and may feel unwarranted fears. Although most attacks usually last for about a few minutes, there are some that last for almost ten minutes and even those that continue on for an hour. A disorder is diagnosed when the attacks happen in a time frame of just four weeks.

We fear a lot of things but there are some people who are quite irrational with their fears. These fears on things are called phobias. There is a long list of phobia forms, having a specific name for each item that is feared. A person, for instance, who is afraid of open spaces has what psychologists like to call agoraphobia. Phobias are characterized by extreme anxiety and even panic attacks when confronted by the object being feared. Many of the symptoms that are felt during panic attacks are also felt during phobic episodes.

Post-traumatic stress disorder also falls under anxiety disorders. PTSD, as it is often called, often developed after experiencing, witnessing or participating in a traumatic and terrorizing event such as death, war, torture and other extreme circumstances. PTSD is characterized by intense anxiety and nightmares at night. People who have PTSD also find it difficult to sleep and to concentrate on things. Often, anxiety attacks go to the extreme when confronted with situations that have similarities with the one experienced.

Mortgage payment protection insurance could be your lifeline

If you were to find yourself out of work after suffering from an accident, were to become ill or become unemployed then life could get extremely hard and you could be at risk of losing your home if you cannot keep up with the mortgage repayments. However, the solution to this financial nightmare is mortgage payment protection insurance.

Regardless of your circumstances your mortgage would still have to be paid and if you had checked a mortgage payment protection insurance policy against your circumstances and found it suitable, then you would not have to worry. Once you had been out of work for between 31 to 90 days depending on the provider you would receive an income which would allow you to continue repaying your mortgage. The money would be tax free and would then continue paying out each month for between 12 and 24 months depending on the provider.

However you do have to check that a policy would be suitable and you would be eligible to claim because there are exclusions which could mean a policy would be useless in your circumstances. If you only work part time, suffer a pre-existing medical condition, are retired or self-employed then a policy would not be in your best interest. Providers can add in other exclusions so it is essential to read the small print and compare the exclusions in the policy at the same time as comparing the small print. A quality policy would have no excess and very few exclusions whilst being affordable, it should also come with the terms and conditions including the exclusions clearly explained in plain English.

An independent specialist provider will always offer the cheapest quotes for the premiums along with the best advice and all the information needed for you to be able to make an informed decision regarding the suitability of the product. Mortgage payment protection insurance can be hard to understand so it is imperative that you do choose to take the cover out with a specialist and not have it included into the cost of the mortgage at the time of taking the mortgage out. High street lenders give very little advice regarding the exclusions and terms and conditions which has accounted for the majority of mis-selling and the product earning a bad reputation.

Mortgage payment protection insurance should become more transparent in March 2008 with the introduction of comparison tables. The tables will show how much the cover will cost in total along with the exclusions in a policy and through a series of questions which the consumer answers, they will be able to determine which if any of the payment protection policies are most suitable. The cover can work the way it was designed to work but you do have to take the time to read the exclusions and determine for yourself if mortgage cover is the right choice for your circumstances. Mis-selling of policies is only done through ignorance of the product and it is no the actual policy itself that is to blame.

Building your first web site

Before doing anything on the technical side, you need some kind of basic idea to work with. I suggest first getting some paper and a pencil. Start by sketching a layout of how you would like your web page to appear. For example, a simple title at the top, the area in which you would like any content, pictures and so on. Now its time to do some programing!

Don't let the word programing scare you. Anyone can learn and there are several sites that offer free tutorials. One such site is w3schools. com/html/default. asp. Although it is not necessary to be a top notch programer to build and operate your web site, you should learn the basics of html. I recommend that you thoroughly learn about tables. They are widely used and with them, you can create a professional looking layout (even as a beginner).

You can use any basic text editor, like notepad, to write, edit, and save your code (html). When saving your work for the first time, choose Text Document for type of file, then save with the extension htm (for example index. htm). Your home page (the first page people usually see) is normally saved as index. htm. To see how your page looks, double click on the file and it should automatically open up in your browser.

Now that you've got your web page ready to go, it's time to find a host (a place for your web page to live). Since this is your first site, I suggest you use Free Web Hosting. Some host will put advertising, such as a banner, on your site as the cost of free hosting. Others will only charge you to register your Domain Name ( YourSite. com). Be careful not to accidentally sign up for extras such as url protection, spam control, etc. (unless you feel you need them) as they will add to your cost. These sites will have a limit on bandwidth (how much data that can be transmitted per month), email accounts, and maybe a few other things, but are still great for first timers. If later on you feel you need more, then you usually can upgrade. To find a host, just use any search engine and the keyword phrase Free Web Hosting.

Ok! You've sketched a layout for your web page, learned some basic html, coded your web page, found your host with the most (couldn't resist), and registered your URL ( YourSite. com). Now it's time to upload (transfer) your file (web page ) to your host. To do this you need a FTP program. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. When using this application, there are usually two windows. The left window shows your computer files, and the right window shows the files stored on your host. For a good tutorial and to download a freeware FTP program, FTP Commander, go to nexcess. net/hosting/support/tutorials/ftp/ftpcommindex. php.

Now you should be up and running. But don't stop there. Continue to tweak, add pages, learn to link to other pages and sites, and frequently add new content. Who knows, you could eventually learn to profit from your creation.

Use a catalog today

Most people that I know love to shop for new things. There is something great about getting something new to wear or to use in your home or office. The problem, however, is that there are so many places to shop that it can become a time consuming event that no one really has time for. I have found that one of the best ways to shop for all the things I need and want is to use a catalog.

Using a catalog for shopping has become my new best friend. One of the greatest things about it is that I can shop from home. No more piling the kids in the van and heading off for hours of shopping at various stores. It can be much easier and much more time efficient to stay at home, let the kids play, and shop from a catalog.

The great thing today is that most stores have a catalog available to customers. You can easily call the customer service department of the store you are interested in and have a catalog sent to your home for little or no charge. Some stores even allow you to sign up for a subscription to their catalog online. Think about the stores you love to shop in and then figure out how to get a catalog from each of them. By using a catalog you will not have to sacrifice finding great items at any of your favorite stores.

Using a catalog to shop allows you to really explore your options before making a purchase. You can compare similar products and prices in different catalogs and make sure that you are making the best purchase for you. The more catalogs you collect, the more products you will have to choose from. Gather a catalog from as many stores as you can and then enjoy searching them for the best deals.

Because my life is so crazy and busy, I find that there is no better way to shop than to use a catalog. I find that using a catalog rather than hopping around from store to store saves me so much time and energy. I can browse a catalog when I just have a few spare minutes instead of waiting to shop until I have a few free hours.

If you are looking for a simple way to take care of all your shopping needs, consider shopping from a catalog today.

How to build and manage a successful fundraising team

For larger fundraising projects you should put together a team to help you otherwise you will be stretched far too thin and stand a good chance of failing. The ideal team from a cost perspective is volunteer-based but you might have to occasionally hire someone especially if it’s for a specialized task that most people can’t do.

Many people dread being asked to volunteer and do so begrudgingly but you will be surprised at how many people you ask will be more than happy to “roll up their sleeves” and pitch in for no other reason than to help out a good cause.

The best people to approach in building your fundraising team should be individuals or groups that are sympathetic to your cause. Example: Parents with players on the football team have a vested interest in helping the team get new uniforms.

Others are just naturally giving in their time and are usually involved in several projects at once. If you can land one of these types of go-getters on your team they often have the drive and ambition of several volunteers.

To find volunteers just use common sense. Try the people that are tied to the cause first and build from there. You might consider placing ads in your local grocery stores if they have free Community Bulletin Boards in the entrance and exits. Another idea is to approach your local paper and see if they will donate a small ad for you to use to find help.

Talk to your prospective volunteers and tell them exactly what you are trying to accomplish and what you would expect from them in terms of time and effort. It’s a good idea to have some type of fundraising plan drawn up that you can show them as this not only shows that you are organized and serious but they will also be better able to see how the time and skill requirements fits into their schedules and abilities.

Training should be done by you or someone that knows the exact role the volunteer will be performing and you want to be sure to thoroughly go over any tasks and duties they will be performing so there are no misunderstandings later on. Be careful to not talk down to them or lecture them. Remember, they are giving you one of their most precious resources, their time, so respect that and them as a person and you will go far.

It is important to match the task with the person when making job assignments. You probably wouldn’t want someone who is an expert in selling to stuff envelopes when they would be more valuable and happy working the phones trying to solicit donors.

If you are working from an office environment be sure and make it as pleasant and comfortable a place as you can. Easy access to snacks and drinks (maybe provided free by a generous donor?) should be available and any other creature comforts you can add will be most welcome.

If it’s a long project you might want to consider some type of event for reaching a milestone. This would of course depend on your budget but it could be something as simple as bringing in pizza to celebrate.

Always keep an eye out for overwork and stress. People that have volunteered want to help you so respect them and if it looks like they are being overwhelmed it’s time to bring in some more help. The key idea is to keep them happy and wanting to continue to help rather than feeling like they are stuck because they are too polite to quit.

Be sure and give praise and say thanks often to each and everyone of your volunteers. Let them know how appreciative you are of their help.

Keep an eye out for any personality conflicts and work swiftly to resolve them. This might be something solved easily like relocating someone to another part of the office or it might mean asking the person to leave. Don’t be afraid to do this if you have to because you ultimately are responsible for the group as a whole and the success of the project falls on your shoulders. Be a leader!

Follow these simple steps, communicate frequently, respect and thank your team often and you will find that your fundraiser will be a great success!

The business of keeping cars on the road is latest trend

With cars made to last longer, costing more and more people hanging onto their vehicles long after the warranty has expired, there is a growing need for qualified after-market automotive care businesses. Even before the warranty expires, there are many car owners willing to pay to maintain the appearance of their vehicles, inside and out, and a small shop specializing in automotive detail work can find a lucrative business in virtually any community. This is also the case for those who can not afford to trade cars every year or so but still need a dependable car that runs.

When was the last time you heard someone say you love to wash the inside of the car’s windows? Most people can handle picking up a roll of paper towels and a bottle of glass cleaner and wiping down the outside of their windows, but when it comes to the inside of the glass, most will wait until they can no longer see through the windows before cleaning them. Automatic car washes, especially in the day of brushless technology, often leave many cars with streaks and do not remove all the things that attach themselves to the car finishes and owners are willing to pay to keep their car looking like they just drove it off the showroom. This can be a place to cash in for those interested in a car care business.

Opening your own car care business may be possible on a shoestring, adding services as money becomes available, but most car owners are going to expect to see professional operation before allowing any type of work to be done to their vehicle. Very few will trust their prized possession to someone with a tree in the backyard, no matter how good you are, even for something like a car wash and wax. They want to know that when they pick up their vehicle it does not look like it was cleaned by the local sports team.

If the money is available, consider buying into a franchise business. For virtually every types of car-care need, there is a franchised business. From oil changes, transmission repair and tire sales, there are national chains that offer the right person a significant opportunity to build a successful business. And while come folks may not be in tune with following someone else’s business model, franchisees typically find success by following a proven business plan.

Opening your own repair business may be slightly cheaper and there will not be a company representative telling you how to do almost every phase of the work, but with a franchise, you have instant name recognition as well as instant credibility of offering services professionally.

Even if you very little about the type of services the franchise offers, hiring the right people and sticking with the franchise training plan can quickly put a new business into your future. Not everyone that sell hamburgers actually puts them together, they just know how to hire the right people to offer a quality service and how to keep customers satisfied.
